Throwaway Thursday and Why I want to be a Minimalist

If there's a Throwback Thursday, there is also a Throwaway Thursday . These are  pictures of stuffs that I am letting go or giving away to give way to a minimalist lifestyle, stuffs that I have been holding on for reasons unknown. This is one of my mantras: Less stuff, stress. For more information, see the post
here.

Why do I want to become a Minimalist? Because I want to travel and live with just a backpack for a long period of time before I turn 30, not caring for a huge make-up bag or a hair-blower because, as much I am tomboyish, I still got my kikay side which is frustrating coz it means you have all kinds of products for different kinds of needs. UGH, WOMEN! I want to travel light so I can go places without carrying a huge luggage. When I go back home, I want to go backpacking all over the Philippines and that, my friends, is the reason I want to be a minimalist.

I gave away make-up to my teenage neighbor. I once invited her over to rummage through my make-up stash and to take whatever she likes. She had fun and I was relieved that I gave away most of my make-up instead of throwing it away. I also gave away a huge make-up bag to my nieces back home and my sister-in-law said to give more books instead. Haha! I have hoarded a lot of cheap make-ups and this time around, whenever I am in the hunt for cosmetics, I would consider quality over quantity.

I recently sent a huge Balikbayan box for my family back home. It mostly contains a lot of clothes, shoes and personal stuffs that I am not using to be given to my mom and nieces. I seriously have less stuffs here and I am loving it. I feel free and light but I still have to go through a lot!
These are stuffs I donated this week:

Heavy  Winter Scarf
As much as I love this one, I had to let it go coz I am not using it.

Trench Coat
I have a special trench coat. This is just extra so gotta let it go.

1 Old Navy long sleeve shirt
1 Aeropostale jogging pant and 2 random pants
3 shirts
1 brown antique-like box

2 shirts and 1 bumblebee costume for kids. Suppose to be for my nephew but he is older now so he can't wear this

Throwaway Thursday

Whew, it's been a while since I went over my stuffs and it's been a while since I gave away something. My stuffs are getting less and less but I need to ruthlessly edit more. Still a working progress minimalist here!

It's weird  finding useless stuffs that I have been holding on like a pair of stockings that has runs.  I bought  it for $18 dollars years ago coz I had to attend a formal gathering and it has tummy control thingamajiggy, I was in a heavier side at that time. I thought expensive stuff equals high quality and I thought this would be my go-to stocking for formal events forever and ever and I was so wrong. I used it for just a night and bam, it has long runs! I know I can't use it anymore but I held on to it coz hey, I bought it for $18! I thought I'd justify my spending by keeping it but I know in my heart of hearts that I should let this go.

Here are stuffs I am giving away for my 4th Throwaway Thursday:

•Make ups

•Sweaters:

• The 18 dollar stockings:

•Random personal care stuffs I am not using. These are still unopened.

• Hangers

Less stuff, less stress.

Good riddance.

Throwaway Thursday

If there's a Throwback Thursday, there is also Throwaway Thursday. These are  pictures of stuffs I am letting go or giving away to give way to a minimalist lifestyle, stuffs that I have been holding on for reasons unknown. This is one of my mantras: Less stuff, less stress.

This is my third Throwaway Thursday , but I have been letting go of stuffs long before that which I did not document coz I wasn't blogging at that time yet.

Rest assured that I am really letting go of these things. I don't post pictures just for the sake of posting pictures. This Throwaway Thursday really motivates me to slowly clean up and give away stuffs I don't use.

These are things that I am giving away this week:

Post-Its!

Water Bottles

Trench Coat

Containers

Stockings

Keys

Less Stuff, Less Stress :)

Throwaway Thursday

My third Throwaway Thursday. I can't believe I have a lot of unnecessary stuffs I have been holding on coz I might "need them someday" or "I'll fix it when I have time".  Instead of hoarding and waiting for that "someday" to come, I now believed that by the time I need it, I have the ability and the resources to secure that stuff.

Time to let them go.

Less stuff, less stress.

2 pants
2 hand sanitizers
Off Spray

American Eagle Ugg Inspired Boots
I have a real Ugg boots already. A Christmas gift from my employer. No need to keep this.

2 huge Sterilite Containers

Another huge Sterilite Container

Books
HP Ink and Dried out Make-up remover wipes

And some other knickknacks

Throwaway Thursday

If there's a Throwback Thursday, there is alsoThrowaway Thursday. These are  pictures of stuffs that I am letting go or giving away to give way to a minimalist lifestyle, stuffs that I have been holding on for reasons unknown. This is one of my mantras: Less stuff, less stress.

This is my second Throaway Thursday , but I have been letting go of stuffs long before that which I did not document coz I wasn't blogging at that time yet.

Today, I am letting go of magazines which are sitting like bosses in my shelf. Someone subscribed me to these magazines. To tell you honestly, I don't even read or open these magazines. I'm not fashionista and I don't care what's happening on the fashion world . I wish that my friend subscribed me on other magazines like Nat Geo or Time. I have been receiving magazines since 2-3 years ago and I end up donating them to the library, unopened. Now, another batch is going to the library:

I am also donating another blower:

And oh, the Cargo Plus guy picked up my 2 boxes last Tuesday. Boy, those boxes were an eye-sore  for the longest time. Those contains my personal stuffs for my "for good" moment. I instructed mom not to open it yet. All in all, I have 3 large boxes full of stuffs, some for myself and must are to be given to my relatives.

Minimalism: Downsizing and Purging

I stumble upon the word "minimalism" when I was searching for home decorations and home style. At that time, I just purchased a small townhouse in Cebu and I thought I need to furnished myself with decoration styles that are easy on the eyes-- less clutter. I was drawn to that style, but it never occurred to me that minimalism could be applied to all area of your life not just the interior of the house.

Call me nuts but I already started sending my stuffs to the Philippines since 6 months ago in preparation for my "for good" goal and I realized its just too much stuffs I have accumulated through out my stay here. I am currently filling up two boxes of my stuffs to be shipped to the Philippines. See, I'm telling you, I am really going home for good!

I started researching about  how to let go of stuffs that don't put meaning to your life. I met the words "voluntary simplicity" and "minimalism" and I liked the sounds of those words.

This video change my perspective about accumulating stuffs. I nodded in agreement to this video and this sums up what minimalist lifestyle is all about.

I started purging and donating my stuffs since February. I gave away at least 50 percent of my stuffs to thrift store. I wish I took pictures of those. I haven't started blogging at that time, so I did not document it. I gave away make-ups, perfumes, lotions, books, clothes I haven't worn in 3 years and all. It was hard at first but the feeling after giving away stuffs are great. I can't even begin to describe the fuzzy feeling I felt.

Minimalism is a continuing process. I still have stuffs I have hard time giving up which I will share with you one of these days. I consider myself a working progress minimalist, but I do feel good seeing all those stuffs go. Trust me, it really feel good. It's like a breath of fresh air!
