Ridiculed Because of My "ANCIENT" Phone

Not a "DUMB" Phone to me

My phone has been criticized many times by my coworkers:

"You should donate your phone to Smithsonian"

"You should sell them to an antique dealership. You'd get a lot of money"

Yada yada

I would laugh with them,of course. Weirdly enough, I'm not hurt or anything when they make fun of my phone. I guess when you have the right mindset, peer pressure wouldn't get into your nerves.

I would jokingly answer them: "FYI, I am not a zombie like you guys, going with the crowd or going where the noises are."

But still, jokes are still thrown at me for being so cheap.

Should I b**ch slap them with my investment portfolio? Or should I say it on their faces that if I want to I could by 10 iPhone 6 at once?

I'm joking, of course. But most of the time , Filipinos  judge you with what phone you are holding rather looking at the big picture. Maybe I should give them The Millionaire Next Door book. Hmmmm.

If your happiness is having the latest phone out there so be it, but please don't make fun of those who chose not to have one, coz honey, you can't measure a person's success or person's net worth with what phone they are using.

To each his own, I guess.

    2. I have that book, too! Read it ages ago, nakalimut nako..darn.. Oh, I also have a dumbphone, haha.. and I get the same comments. It sometimes bother me that I would end up checking out smart phones, only to go home empty-handed as I could not convince myself to spend much on a phone.

    3. Yah, very good book, right?

The more they comment about my phone that I need to buy smart ones, the more I get stubborn. Hehehe, some rebellious thing in me.

  2. I have a not-so smart phone too. Its a Blackberry something. I used to want to "upgrade" to a real smart phone, but I enjoy mine now. I realized how annoying it is when people would rather interact with their phones versus have real conversations with the people in front of them.

If my Blackberry dies on me (from overuse), I will get a lesser, cheaper smart phone. Just because I do need access to chat apps like weChat. Life line ko yan to my closest friends.

    1. Hey Didi,

For me,too. I have iPod Touch for easier access to the net though I can't go online if I there is no wi-fi. But I am all okay with it. I am use to not having wi-fi all the time.

  3. Some people can be very insensitive with or without them knowing it. Sometimes, you just have to tell them off so they could get back to their senses.

I stopped buying a phone in 2006. I was already three years working then. From then on, I have been using hand-me-down phones from my boyfriend (and eventually husband). I just don't see a need to buy a new phone because I'm not much into the latest technology. As long as I could call and text with my phone, it's okay with me. :)

  4. True.

That's should not be the basis of people's success but Filipinos, by nature I think, is very materialistic.

I know some Kabayans who buy phones which are equivalent to their one month salary. Really?

Anyway, we have different priorities so I guess we just need to respect them also. :-)
